Julia Dent Grant Bicentennial

Due to inclement weather, our Julia Dent Grant bicentennial ceremony, originally scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, has been postponed to Sunday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. (Note the change in the start time as well as the new date.) As before, the ceremony will be an indoor event, but since the heater inside the Tomb is broken, please dress as if the event were held outdoors. Fortunately, the heater at the visitor center across the street from the Tomb is still working, and it is there that we will have cake and refreshments starting at 2 p.m., followed by the slideshow presentation on Julia Grant’s life.

Monday, January 26, 2026, marks First Lady Julia Dent Grant’s 200th birthday!

The Grant Monument Association (GMA) invites you to mark the occasion at Grant’s Tomb. An hour-long ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1 and include remarks by historian Pam Sanfilippo, Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Grant descendant Ulysses Grant Dietz, and representatives of the Daughters of Union Veterans, the Sons of Union Veterans, and the GMA. The commemoration will also feature messages from America’s first ladies, period music, and the laying of wreaths. After the ceremony concludes, cake and refreshments will be provided by the GMA at the visitor center across the street from Grant’s Tomb. GMA president Frank Scaturro will follow at the visitor center with a slideshow presentation on Julia Grant’s life.

There is no charge, and all are welcome to attend.

Grant’s Tomb is located at Riverside Drive and W. 122 St. in New York City. Directions to the site are available here. Site staff can be reached at (646) 670-7251. You can reach the Grant Monument Association at (646) 504-1865.
