Site #2 - The Overlook Pavilion

Garland Reynolds and Frank Scaturro at overlook site

This option entails renovation of and addition to the historic overlook pavilion across the street from the Tomb. The overlook pavilion is now in a state of serious disrepair and without renovation faces further environmental deterioration.

The overlook pavilion presents significant problems as the location of a visitor center, as will be explored. Nonetheless, the Grant Monument Association has developed two conceptual architectural studies to show how such a visitor might be constructed to include such essential features as updated restrooms, a gallery, a retail sales area, exhibit areas, an audio-visual presentation area, and administrative offices and support space. Every effort has been made to maintain and enhance the beauty of the existing architectural style, including incorporation of a viewing terrace that affords an impressive view of the Hudson River.
